The origins of this symbol date back to ancient Greece, representing the vital organ, inspired by the ivy leaf, a resilient plant. As a graphic symbol of love, it became widespread in the Middle Ages, notably in the illustrated collection of legends, "The Romance of Alexander" in 1340. The Red Heart was approved by the Unicode computer encoding standard in 1993.
