The whisk

The etymology of the word dates back to the 12th century, from the word "fou" (mad), which referred to the beech tree. Following the branches used since Antiquity to mix ingredients, the hand-held metal whisk was invented in 1841, and its mechanical version appeared in 1856. Inseparable from the whisk, the chef's hat was invented in 1821 by the French chef Marie-Antoine Carême (1783-1833).
