Gabba Gabba Hey
In 1976 in Cleveland, Ohio, after their concert was canceled due to bad weather, the Ramones took the opportunity to discover Tod Browning’s masterpiece The Freaks (Freaks, 1932). In one delirious banquet scene, the guests chant in unison: “Gooble gobble, we accept her, one of us!” The film inspired bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who went on to write the song “Pinhead,” featured on their second album, Leave Home (1977). On stage, singer Joey Ramone would habitually hold up a sign reading “Gabba Gabba Hey,” inviting the audience to chant the song’s final slogan.
